(August 2021) - Over a month ago, before my late kitty Tiberius became so sick, I set out to record a new solo album of music with a singular focus - to be all-embracing of atmosphere, texture, density, immersion, and melody - little did I know what the next month had in store. I recorded for days and weeks on end starting in late July/early August with my little buddy in the studio with me, listening, sleeping, chirping and meowing occasionally, relaxing to whatever it was I was playing. Tiberius loved music.

After he passed on August 23rd, I started listening back to these recordings over recent days, sifting through and trying to piece them together and have something to focus on. The album I set out to make is not the one I received in the end, which is what makes it that much more beautiful... What is so apparent now is that this music I was recording - spontaneous, un-edited, stream-of consciousness layering with my looper and choice effects and textures - and mistakes - was not being played or recorded for me at all.... it was a living document of the time and final journey with my buddy, sonic medicine for him, and captured for me to always have as a reminder of our bond.

I recorded a final piece for this collection a couple of days after we lost him - a simple solo piece on fretless electric - and it was complete.

Though this record ended up being a very, very personal snapshot, my hope is that the music contained here will find its own meaning for others - a meditative companion or a venue for rest and reawakening... hopefully with a close companion nearby like my buddy was for me.
