“There’s a mix of upright and electric across the whole album, and I ended up using my Lakland Basses 55-01 fretted and fretless basses primarily. It’s a pretty sparse, stark, low-key affair. Not really jazz, but there is some jazz influence - definitely an ECM jazz/new age sort of vibe in places.
A lot of it wasn’t really ever recorded with the intention of it being ‘released’ per-se, but as I kept recording and accumulating tunes, there was a cohesiveness about the sound that started to emerge. Also, a lot of it was recorded ‘live’ with my Boomerang looper, so sometimes what was captured was in mono vs. stereo and fleshed out with stereo reverb later. It also was mostly recorded/transferred on a Tascam PortaStudio 414, so there is some inherent analog noise that comes with the medium before it was moved to digital. For it all having been recorded at different times with varying settings and sounds over the past year and a half, it still turned out to be an interesting document.”
