about

*Original CD version released October 2014. Original digital version released 1/22/2016. Remastered exclusive digital version released 7/30/2021.

*Remastering Notes - When I first recorded and released this record on CD in 2014, I did not have the tools I do now which would have helped me fully realize my sonic goals for the album. In retrospect, recording the album on an old Tascam 414 PortaStudio onto analog cassette tape was an awesome thing, and I was happy with the results of the original record - but I needed more tools which were simply out of reach then. This remaster achieves some sonic tweaking in terms of EQ and stereo imaging that I wasn't able to do then - I feel like it adds to the music in a tasteful way - like looking at a photo through new glasses.

“There’s a mix of upright and electric across the whole album, and I ended up using my Lakland Basses 55-01 fretted and fretless basses primarily. It’s a pretty sparse, stark, low-key affair. Not really jazz, but there is some jazz influence - definitely an ECM jazz/new age sort of vibe in places.

A lot of it wasn’t really ever recorded with the intention of it being ‘released’ per-se, but as I kept recording and accumulating tunes, there was a cohesiveness about the sound that started to emerge. Also, a lot of it was recorded ‘live’ with my Boomerang looper, so sometimes what was captured was in mono vs. stereo and fleshed out with stereo reverb later. It also was mostly recorded/transferred on a Tascam PortaStudio 414, so there is some inherent analog noise that comes with the medium before it was moved to digital. For it all having been recorded at different times with varying settings and sounds over the past year and a half (2012-2014), it still turned out to be an interesting document.”
